'Bow of Champions'
|
'Bow of Champions' Framed by Brendon Davies at our Perry street studio was a challenge and a pleasure to create the prefect frame.
A violin bow made from the tail hairs of some of the world's most successful race horses, three times Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva, the multiple Group One winning mare Sunline, the Breeders Cup champion Ouija Board and the legendary stallions Sadlers Wells, Redoute's Choice and Zabeel all feature in the bow, which reached $27,250 on the night of auction. Proceeds from a wide range of auction items sold at the Up & Away event will be gifted to the New Zealand Spinal Trust to assist SCI sufferers with independent living and rehabilitation needs. Proceeds will also go towards CatWalk's goal of finding a cure for SCI and getting people out of wheelchairs and back onto their feet.

Curtis Cup Hockey Action
|
Wairarapa Under 13 Curtis Hockey Team came 3rd equal last week with Manawatu, when they competed in the 2008 Curtis Regional Tournament.
The first day saw the boys beat Taranaki 3-2 in the morning and a loss to Hawkes Bay 3 nil in the evening. Day two they beat Horowhenua 5-1. And on Day three they lost 5 - 2 to Hutt Valley.
On finals day the boys had a very respectable 1nil draw with Manawatu.
Hawkes Bay won the tournament with Hutt Valley coming second.
All boys showed exceptional sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Their skill level of hockey has improved throughout the hockey season and coach Shane Hodgkiss was happy with their placing.
Goalies Harry Birkett and Thomas Nikolaison displayed some awesome goal saving. This was helped by the solid defence of backs and halves Matthew Moloney, Sam McLennan, Blair Rutene, Adam McLennan, Tom Feringa, and Ryan McQuade. Forwards Dean Gray, George Whitehead, Dhruv Raman, Zachary Smith, Luke McKay and Ryan Brown showed us all why they were there, with some fantastic goals scored by all.
Luke McKay was named player of the tournament, which was well deserved.
A big thank you must go out to all that have supported the boys this season, whether by purchasing raffle tickets, baking for the boys tournaments or the company's that have sponsored them this year. Thank you very much.
